The Sub-Saharan Africa Brain Health Initiative (SSABHI) is collaborating with a leading academic and health research institution to conduct a study to determine the dementia knowledge, attitude and practices among non-physician primary healthcare providers in Southeast Nigeria. We are hiring!
Position: Research Data Collector (Field Enumerator)
Project: Sensitise, Educate and Evaluate Dementia (SEED) Project
Number of Persons Required: Six (6)
Duration: 3 months (initial engagement as per project phase requirements)
Location: Across project sites in Ohaozara LGA, Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

1. Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in public health, Health Sciences, Psychology, Social Sciences, Statistics, or related field.
Diploma holders with substantial field data collection experience in health research may also be considered.
2. Work Experience
At least 1–2 years of verifiable experience in data collection for health-related research projects or surveys.
Prior experience with projects on dementia, mental health, or geriatric populations is an added advantage.
Familiarity with standardized health assessment tools (e.g., WHO SAGE, MMSE, AD8, or dementia screening instruments) is desirable.
3. Technical Skills
Proficiency in the use of mobile data collection tools (e.g., Chi-squares survey tool, Google Questionnaire, KoboToolbox, ODK, or REDCap, SurveyCTO)
Basic knowledge of data quality assurance principles and fieldwork ethics.
Ability to accurately collect, record, and transmit data following strict protocols.
Good understanding of informed consent procedures and confidentiality in research.
4. Personal Attributes
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – ability to engage sensitively with participants, including elderly and vulnerable populations.
Ability to work independently and in a team under minimal supervision.
Cultural sensitivity and respect for local traditions and norms.
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
5. Language Requirements
Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Ability to speak Igbo language or local dialects in the project area is highly desirable.
6. Availability
Willingness to travel extensively within assigned regions and work in rural and urban communities.
Flexible working long hours or weekends when required to meet project timelines.
7. Other Requirements.
Must own or have access to a smartphone/tablet compatible with data collection applications.
Valid means of identification and references from previous employers.
Selection Process:
Application Screening: Based on CV and cover letter.
Written Test: To assess basic knowledge of data collection principles.
Interview: To evaluate interpersonal skills, understanding of dementia-related work, and field readiness.
Training & Assessment: Selected candidates must successfully complete a mandatory training on the SEED project protocols and dementia assessment tools before deployment.
