The Sub-Saharan Africa Brain Health Initiative (SSABHI) is a non-profit non-governmental organisation leading the advancement of brain health through education, advocacy, professional development, research and scientific exchange among Africans, resident in Africa and in the diaspora. SSABHI is collaborating with a research institute to implement the Sensitise, Educate and Evaluate Dementia (SEED) project in Southeast Nigeria.  We are hiring officers to support the project implementation.

Position: Research and Program Officer

Location: Abuja, Nigeria.

Reports to: Principal Investigator, SEED Project

Duration: 12 months

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation and smooth running of the SEED project and other programmes of the organisation
  • Plan meetings between the PI and other personnel on the project
  • Learn the study protocol, develop questionnaires and coordinate field testing
  • Supervise the recruitment and training of data collectors
  • Accurate documentation and reporting of all project activities
  • Ensure strict adherence to the study protocol and data collection procedures
  • Facilitate the publication of pamphlets with information about the research project, the aims and benefits.
  • Facilitate stakeholders’ engagement and management, including relevant ministries, departments and agencies of federal and state government.
  • Manage the SSABHI secretariat activities

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree holder in medical sciences, social sciences or public health with five (5) years’ experience working in the field of academic research or with non-profit organisations including engagement with policy, practice and government constituencies. OR. A masters’ degree in development studies, social science, public health or related fields with two (2) years’ experience working in the field of academic research or with non-profit organisations including engagement with policy, practice and government constituencies. Membership of SSABHI will be an added advantage.
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent report writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong liaison, representational and interpersonal skills
  • Good knowledge of office administration principles and practices.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple partners.
  • Familiarity with relevant research regulations and guidelines.

 

Position: Research Logistics Officer

Location: Okposi, Ebonyi State (Nigeria)

Reporting to: Principal Investigator, the SEED Project

Duration: 12 months

Responsibilities

  • Develop a database of health facilities and eligible primary healthcare providers in the study location
  • Organize advocacy visits to local health authorities and community health committees
  • Facilitate the recruitment and training of data collectors
  • Develop a data collection plan
  • Organize transportation for all project activities
  • Organize dissemination activities to the LGA and state government officials for the research project
  • Collect and keep supporting documents for all field activities
  • Manage relationship with community-based organizational partners.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree holder in medical sciences, social sciences or public health with five (5) years’ experience working in the field of academic research or with non-profit organisations.
  • Experience in community engagement and mobilisation.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple activities.
  • Excellent communication in the local dialect and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with the dialect and culture of the study location
  • Knowledge of logistics principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant research regulations and guidelines.
